Welcome to Week 14!
My weigh-in today was up, sitting at 161, which is a pretty drastic increase, but I’m not gonna sweat it. Over the last week I’ve been having a difficult time staying motivated and frankly I haven’t been eating well. I’m feeling good today, focused and confident. Some of you might see this increase as a set-back, but I refuse to look at it so negatively. In my journey to better health and wellness I have been addressing a lot of needs that have gone unattended to for years, so it’s a bit of a longer process than I anticipated in the beginning. Because this isn’t just about losing a few pounds – frankly I’m happy where I am currently because I’m in pretty great shape overall – it’s all too easy to forget that when you focus so squarely on the reading from the bathroom scale. That being said, I by no means believe that I’ve suddenly gained 7 pounds over the last week haha, that just doesn’t happen. In order for me to do that I would have to eat approximately 24,500 calories OVER my maintenance rate…. which would be more like, 37,100 calories. That’s a whole lot of food! So I know I’m hanging on to a bunch of water from the last couple days. Water weight is my nemesis! (On the plus side, the time I’ve spent at home has been well spent on making some serious headway on my dinky little novel. I’m on pace to finish it by the end of this month 🙂 Woohoo!)
With that said, let’s focus on a non-scale related victory today. Non-scale victories are great because they keep you feeling good about yourself even when the scale is trying to discourage you. I think it’s important that everyone that is on a weight-loss journey spends a little bit of time every week to come up with a couple NSV’s. Today my NSV is that I finally went into my apartment’s garage and took my bike out of it’s rack where it has been sitting since about…. October? I can’t even remember if I rode into November or not. I might’ve. But I pulled it out, dusted it off and rode into work this morning. A little chilly, and honestly the ride in felt so much more difficult but I think that’s just normal for the first cycle of the year. Especially because I sort of hate stationary bikes so it’s not like I’ve been keeping up with it at the gym haha. It’s supposed to rain tomorrow and Friday so this will probably be the only day I ride this week but my plan is now that the weather is slowly improving that I’ll get back into biking to work every day. It’s so much more enjoyable than the crowded TTC!
Next month the Great Cycle Challenge kicks off, which some of you might remember is the ride to conquer kids’ cancer. It’s a really incredible cause and I really recommend taking part. It’s an awesome community of riders so it’s a fantastic way to get into the riding season.
And it’s only 3 days until the C.N Tower Climb for WWF! I’m so pumped for this one. That’ll be added to my NSV list upon completion 🙂 I’m hoping to walk it in under 25minutes. I don’t know if that’s a long time or a short time, honestly, but it feels like a good goal to set. I signed up for this one with the intent of sponsoring myself but if you want to donate, by all means! You can check out my donation page here: C.N Tower Climb.
And we’re about 5 weeks out from the Half-Marathon. More on that next week!
Take care of yourselves 🙂
